Call me a computer geek, but I really enjoy playing with WordPress themes. A few months ago I wrote the Brim Studio theme from scratch and have really enjoyed the new minimalist look. Typically what I do is find a particular website that I like the design of and base it off of that.
What I’ve done for this version is take an already completed theme (original them by Allan Cole) and modified it a bit. The original theme was very photography oriented, which was what I was looking for, but had a number of things that I didn’t want (you probably don’t care about the EXIF data from the pictures and I’m not even sure how to use trackback URLs???). There were some other little bits that I changed and I also added the little Captcha image in the comment section. I know this annoys some people, but this really reduces the amount of spam comments that get sent through!
I really like the easy design of the theme. The images on the home page are grabbed automatically from the images in the posts, which is both attractive and really easy to update. There are also plenty of options for switching back and forth between different posts (did you notice the little arrows on the left and right of the posts to go to the next or previous post? Cool huh!).
Let me know what you think about the theme and if there is anything else that you would want to see!
